What Would Jesus Occupy?

Well, it was only a matter of time that the Occupy Wall Street crowd would drag Jesus into there amorphous angst. I found this picture on one of my friend’s “wall” on Facebook. Of course I had to get involved. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know about Occupy Wall Street. What you know about their demands may be very little. Though a list of demands has been voted on and posted, this statement seems accurate:
There are no Official Demands of the Occupy Movement. that being said, multiple factions of the movement have been assembling to discuss and vote on the output and message for the movement. Below is a LIST OF PROPOSED “DEMANDS FOR CONGRESS” proposed by the website (occupywallstreet.org) which does not entirely represent the Occupy Wall Street General Assembly.
Fair enough. When you look the demands of the coalition of the outraged Continue reading …
Joy Behar: Intentionally Dishonest or Just Historically Challenged?
Discussion between liberals/progressives and conservatives is always difficult because we see the world so differently. What makes it more difficult is when objective facts are left out or worse, stated exactly opposite of reality. Sometimes it is an unintentional misstatement akin to Barack Obama saying during this campaign for president that he had been to all 57 states. I suspect he was aware that there aren’t 57 states in the United State. Sometimes, false claims are made due to a lack of familiarity with the topic. Sometimes, they are just plain lies. I am not sure how to classify Joy Behar’s rewriting of the history of the Republican Party and blacks. Joy is one of the regulars on the ABC’s television show, “The View,” and a couple of weeks ago she claimed the Republican Party hasnt been black friendly over the many centuries in this country’.
Was Behar intentionally dishonest or does she not know history? I don’t know how to answer that question. First of all, Continue reading …
Chris Wallace – A Gotcha Journalist?
I originally thought I would title this something like “Tough Questions for Chris Wallace.” Obviously, being a big time television celebrity, reading our blog is not likely even on his radar much less being any sort of a priority.
Chris Wallace is a member of the FOX News network, host of FOX News Sunday and until recently I had a great deal of respect for what seemed like journalistic integrity. Recently however, he seems to have succumbed to crafting what Newt Gingrich painted as gotcha questions. They are emotionally charged and designed to spark controversy but often are false questions which serve to put the one questioned on the defensive with no real way to give a response that makes them look anything by guilty. In this past Sunday’s interview Fox’s Chris Wallace Hits Santorum from Left on Gays in Military: Continue reading …
They Pinned Notes to the Trees
Current Events news often offers lots of stories and ideas we can write about to offer our opinion or even ask if there is a spiritual element. At times we receive funny and interesting responses. Several years ago, when I was pastoring a small church in Lombard, IL we had a weekly column in the area newspaper. In one of them Joy and I wrote on the age of, what we call, the “cry baby boomers.” A generation that seems to view itself as victims and cries that they are being picked on. The day the column appeared a woman who read it called and left a message which started out something like, “don’t know how old you are but why do all of you old people keep picking on us?” and then she went on to describe how I had further victimized her with the article. As Joy and listened to the message, Joy smiled and said, “She is just proving our point.” I called her and we talked for a bit. She was surprised to discover that I was actually a little younger than she was and she chuckled when I pointed out that her call was an example of what we had been saying. Continue reading …
