    Q & A with
    Randy Birtell,
    MCO Branch Director,
    Scranton, Kansas

Where in the name of MTV and the World Wide Web is Scranton, Kansas?
Scranton’s situated about 20 miles south of Topeka.  We’re a small community of around 700 people, and within a 100 miles of four major universities: Washburn U. in Topeka, Emporia State in Emporia, Kansas, State University in Manhattan, and the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

What’s the closest major metropolitan area?

That woud be Kansas City, about 80 miles away.  Topeka does have some extra influence since it’s the state capitol. For instance, the Creation-Evolution School Board decision took place in Topeka.  So for the average person on the street, Topeka is the city that provides more of a sense of local identity.

How did you become a Christian?
How did you become interested in apologetics?
I got tired of the answer “Just have faith...” whenever difficult questions were asked.  As I listened to men like Ravi Zacharias and Hank Hanegraaff I began to understand that Christianity was more than just a giant leap of faith.  Our faith is based on events, people, and ideas that are historically and philosopically accurate.  Further, the unbelieving world needs good answers to difficult questions. As I talk to unbelievers I find that without reasonable answers to their objections they will disengage from conversation and not be persuaded by Christianity.
